Our Events

Throughout the year we hold numerous events to get involved with the amateur radio community in the Peace Country. See here for upcoming events and to learn about some of the things we do.

The Peace Country Amateur Radio Club meets every Saturday morning at Smitty’s Restaurant in Grande Prairie (west end). On the bypass road (108 Street) by the Great Northern Casino. If you are new to the area, just passing through or a Grande Prairie Amateur Radio Operator, please stop in and have an eyeball QSO and breakfast with some very interesting Amateur Radio operators.

Time: 9:30 am – 11:30 am

Field Day – Last Weekend In June

Field Day is an annual amateur radio exercise that encourages emergency communications preparedness among amateur radio operators. Operations using emergency and alternative power sources are highly encouraged, since electricity and other public infrastructures are often among the first to fail during a natural disaster, emergency situation or severe weather event.

To determine the effectiveness of the exercise and of each participant’s operations, there is an integrated points component that is awarded by the ARRL. This exercise is affiliated with RAC and ARES Canada.

The Peace Country Amateur Radio Club holds its Field Day every year in conjunction with Operators/Clubs across North America and activities include:

  • Camping
  • Testing Various Antenna Configurations
  • Contacts via Voice and CW (Continuous Wave) in North America
  • Visiting with Club Members
  • ARES Display and Demonstration
  • 2026 will be a test of APRS by some of the newest Amateur Radio operators to the club/area.

PCARC invites all members of the community to come try out the microphone for themselves! We typically hold our event at the Legion Campground west and then north of Grande Prairie on Range Road 74, Grande Prairie County No. 1.
